Die Outsole oder Außensohle ist der Teil eines Sneakers, der direkt mit dem Boden in Kontakt kommt und deshalb besonderen Belastungen ausgesetzt ist.
Aus was besteht eine Outsole?
Die meisten Außensohlen sind aus Leder, Gummi oder Kunststoff (Polyurethan, PVC). Beim adidas UltraBOOST ist sogar der Reifen- und Gummihersteller Continental für die Produktion der Sohle verantwortlich. Fast jeder Sneakers besitzt eine andere Outsole.
Legendär ist die von Bill Bowerman erdachte Waffle-Sohle, die bereits in den frühen 1970er Jahren bei vielen Nike-Modellen wie z.B. den Nike Waffle One zum Einsatz kam.
